Hi everybody,
seeing my name as the winner of CP99 is a big surprise as I
jumped on top only after the last giornata. Looking at the
names and the countries of the players of CP99, it seems to
me to be like a 'World Champion'.
Now a bit about myself. I'm a nuclear engineer and I live in
Udine, a little town in Northern Italy. I played basketball
when I was young but I have seen Serie A football matches
since the age of 12. Just like Gianfranco Merlino, the
winner of CP98, I'm a fan of Udinese (so I'm very happy that
Udinese will play again in the UEFA cup tournament next
season). I was introduced to this game by Charl Gerber last
year (many thanks to him).
This is the way I play. I try to guess the maximum number of
matches, with attention to some factors like home-team
advantage, trend of the teams, injuries, matches in UEFA
tournaments etc. I also run a statistical calculation of
results with higher probability. My main problem was that
because of frequent business trips abroad (now I'm in
Australia!) I had to send some predictions one and sometimes
two months before the matches.
I want also to thank my friends Alf (Franco), Cuda
(Corrado), Spillo (Claudio), my brother Andrea, Yara (Anna)
and the good luck (which isn't my friend but still was very
useful), who helped me, in many ways, to win this
tournament. Many thanks to Roberto Ricca and La Citta'
Invisibile who made this tournament possible.
