Hello everybody,
as all winners did in the past, I would like to dedicate the first
sentence to the organiser of CP2001 for the time he spent on it
over the whole year. Being a statistician myself, I particularly
appreciate the global and cumulative rankings to be found on the
site: I could spend hours just watching all those figures.
Before actually presenting myself I would also like to thank all
the 211 people, who sent at least one prediction, without whom my
victory would have been obviously meaningless. A special word for
Danilo Monaco, who seems to end up constantly in the top 3, and to
G. Matteucci, who climbed the ranking in the last couple of months
(I just noticed that he was only 28th on day 26) and just failed
the last prediction. As many other participants, my rule for day
34 simply was: "absolutely no draws". The rest is pure luck, of
course: with 6 or maybe even 7 correct partial guesses I would
have nonetheless lost the leadership in the last week!
So, I was born and grew up in Firenze about 500 metres away from
the 'Artemio Franchi' stadium. No surprise if I'm a supporter of
Fiorentina, joining the purple crowd each Sunday afternoon from
1980 till 1995, when I moved to Luxembourg, the town where I'm
currently living.
Fiorentina's poor season (saved by the Coppa Italia victory) had
at least a positive impact on my CP participation: being quite
superstitious, I predicted losses (outwards) and draws (home
matches) nearly every time with really good results. Apart from
that, I can't find any other reasonable explanation of my
performance, although it is quite obvious that hazardous guesses
and high scores don't pay much in this game: that's why I prefer
to speculate on low scores and very few unlikely results. This
actually brings me to a remark, although I believe that Roberto
Ricca is not very keen on changes, especially because his
cumulative and comparative stats would lose a bit of accuracy:
shouldn't the exact predictions be weighted a bit more?
I feel that the pair of envious fellows (good mates, though) who
introduced me to the Concorso Pronostici deserve to be mentioned
here, namely Giorgio Chiarion Casoni (who left CP last year due
to his poor results!) and Paolo Brizzi (who keeps participating
despite his poor results!). Finally, an encouragement for the
next season to the Luxembourg CP Community (Brizzi, De Grisantis,
Cassata, Merlo and whoever will join next year): "let's keep the
Guru title here!"

Ciao a tutti,
seguendo le orme dei miei predecessori, vorrei dedicare la frase
all'organizzatore del CP2001 per il tempo che ci ha consacrato nel
corso dell'anno. Essendo io stesso uno statistico, sono particolarmente
attratto dalle statistiche globali e cumulate che si trovano sul sito:
potrei passare delle ore solo ad osservare tutti quei numeri.
Prima di presentarmi vorrei anche ringraziare tutti i 211 partecipanti
che hanno inviato almeno un pronostico, senza i quali la mia vittoria
non avrebbe ovviamente alcun senso. Una citazione particolare per
Danilo Monaco, che pare concludere regolarmente nei top 3, e per G.
Matteucci, che e` risalito in classifica negli ultimi due mesi (ho
appena notato che era solo 28° alla 26a giornata) sbagliando solo
l'ultimo pronostico. Come molti altri partecipanti, la mia regola per
l'ultima giornata era: "Assolutamente niente pareggi". Il resto e'
solo fortuna, ovviamente: con 6 o addirittura 7 pronostici parziali
corretti avrei comunque perso il comando proprio all'ultima giornata!
Dunque, sono nato e cresciuto a Firenze, a circa 500 metri dallo
stadio "Artemio Franchi". Non e` quindi una sorpresa se sono tifoso
della Fiorentina, per la quale mi sono mischiato al popolo viola ogni
domenica pomeriggio dal 1980 al 1995, quando mi sono trasferito a
Lussemburgo, la citta` dove vivo attualmente.
La stagione poco brillante della Fiorentina (salvata dalla vittoria
in Coppa Italia) almeno ha avuto un effetto positivo sulla mia
partecipazione al CP2001: essendo abbastanza scaramantico, ho quasi
sempre previsto sconfitte (fuori casa) e pareggi (in casa) con ottimi
risultati. A parte questo, non saprei proprio trovare altre spiegazioni
logiche al mio risultato, anche se e` abbastanza intuitivo che
previsioni azzardate e punteggi alti non rendono molto in questo gioco:
per questo preferisco speculare su punteggi bassi e pochi risultati a
sorpresa. Questo mi porta a fare una considerazione, anche se credo che
Roberto Ricca non sia molto reattivo ai cambiamenti, soprattutto perche'
le sue statistiche perderebbero un po' di significativita`: i pronostici
esatti non dovrebbero forse avere un peso maggiore?
Ritengo che i due personaggi invidiosi (cari amici, comunque) che mi
hanno fatto conoscere il Concorso Pronostici meritano di essere citati
in quest'occasione, ossia Giorgio Chiarion Casoni (che ha abbandonato
il CP l'anno scorso a causa dei suoi risultati deprimenti) e Paolo
Brizzi (che invece persiste nonostante i suoi risultati deprimenti).
Infine, un incoraggiamento per la prossima stagione alla comunita`
lussemburghese del CP (Brizzi, De Grisantis, Cassata, Merlo e chiunque
si unira` l'anno prossimo): "Che il titolo Guru rimanga a Lussemburgo!".
