Cari colleghi di CP,
e` un grande piacere poter scrivere questo messaggio (di cui
allego anche una libera traduzione in inglese)!
Mi chiamo Luca Vigano`, vivo a Verona, Italia (ma sono nato a
Genova, 39 anni fa), e sono il
2007 Net-Guru del Concorso Pronostici !!
Come vedi, Roberto, ho gia` iniziato ad utilizzare il mio diritto a
banfare per un anno :-)
Dopo essermi laureato a Genova nel 1994, mi sono trasferito in
Germania per un dottorato in informatica. Ho partecipato per la
prima volta al CP96 e in tutti gli anni che ho passato fuori
Italia (prima in Germania e poi in Svizzera, finche' sono tornato
in Italia nell'ottobre del 2006) CP e` stato uno splendido modo
per restare attaccatto alle tradizioni italiche oltre che una
costante sfida a indovinare i risultati del campionato italiano.
Pero`, a parte per un "9" (che e` ancora al secondo posto nella
lista dei punteggi settimanali piu` alti), non ho mai avuto
davvero possibilita` di vittoria. In effetti, i miei risultati
sono stati in sintonia con quelli di una delle mie squadre
preferite, la Sampdoria: a volte mi sono trovato appena sopra la
zona retrocessione, a volte me la sono giocata per andare in UEFA,
ma non ho mai avuto davvero la possibilita` di competere per lo
scudetto...
(A proposito, l'altra mia squadra preferita e` l'Inter, ma devo
confessare che ho perso molto del mio tifo per l'Inter quando
hanno licenziato Simoni qualche anno fa, senza una vera ragione
e soprattutto senza stile, direi.)
... fino a quest'anno! Ora posso finalmente banfare e far finta di
capire davvero qualcosa di calcio :-)
La stagione era iniziata abbastanza bene per me: 19. dopo week 1,
8. in week 2, sono rimasto nella seconda parte della top 10 per
un po'. Ma poi sono precipitato al 21. posto in week 12, e poi
ancora piu` giu`: 25., 27., 35., e infine la mia posizione
peggiore, 61. in week 16. E` allora che e` cominciata la mia lenta
ma costante "resurrezione", e quando ho vinto week 23 sono
finalmente riuscito a rientrare nella top 10. Un terzo posto in
week 29 mi ha poi permesso di raggiungere la 3. posizione, e dopo
una serie di punteggi alti, finalmente la prima posizione in week
32. Ho perso la prima posizione ma l'ho riconquistata con un buon
vantaggio sul secondo posto, e le ultime settimane hanno visto il
mio vantaggio diminuire sempre piu` visto che diversi
"scommettitori" di grande esperienza e capacita` (Danilo Monaco,
Joseph Tiziano, Elena Gazia, i Biondini, Svet Dimov, per nominarne
alcuni, con tante scuse a quelli che non ho menzionato) si
avvicinavano sempre piu`... ma non abbastanza!
Dopo tutti questi numeri, che spero non vi abbiano troppo tediato,
la piu` che legittima domanda da porre e`: come hai fatto, Luca?
Beh, proprio non lo so: direi con un misto di logica e pura e
semplice fortuna!
Ho provato a predire i punteggi che mi sembravano piu` ragionevoli,
tenendo pero` a mente che le nuove regole hanno fatto si` che lo
0-0 non sia piu` un risultato molto ricorrente. Piuttosto un 1-1.
E un 2-1 e` piu` probabile di un 1-0, almeno credo (non ho condotto
una vera e propria statistica dei risultati, cosi` potrei anche
sbagliarmi :-). E ogni tanto bisogna aggiungere una predizione un
po' pazza.
Questa sembra essere, e in effetti e`, una strategia piuttosto "sul
sicuro" e non e` quindi particolarmente sorprendente che io abbia
vinto con il secondo punteggio vincente piu` basso di sempre. E`
stata una stagione strana e non vedo l'ora che inizi la prossima,
che potrebbe essere ancora piu` avvincente... a meno che (o
finche' :-) non verra` alla luce qualche nuovo scandalo...
Vorrei comunque concludere ringraziando l'uomo senza quale tutto
questo non avrebbe potuto essere possibile. Roberto, come ti ho
scritto diverse volte in privato, grazie mille per tutto il tuo
eccellente lavoro! E` davvero molto divertente partecipare a CP
e penso che tu renda un grande servigio a tutti noi fanatici.
Quindi, per favore, keep up the good work!

it is a great pleasure for me to have been asked to send this
message, which I write in English, the "lingua franca" of
Concorso Pronostici.
My name is Luca Vigano`, I live in Verona, Italy (but I was born
in Genova, 39 years ago), and I am the
2007 Net-Guru of the Concorso Pronostici !!
As you see, Roberto, I have already begun to exploit my one year
bragging rights :-)
After having obtained my university degree in Genova in 1994, I
moved to Germany for a PhD in computer science and more. I
participated for the first time to CP96 and in all the years that
I spent away from Italy (first in Germany and then in Switzerland,
until I moved back to Italy in October 2006) CP has been a great
way to stay connected to Italy and enjoy the thrill of trying to
guess the results of the Italian championship. However, except
for one "9" (which is still number two in the list of the highest
weakly high scores), I never really managed to have a chance of
winning. Indeed, my scores were very much in tune with those of
one of my two favorite teams, Sampdoria: sometimes I was just
above the relegation positions, sometimes I played for the UEFA
positions, but I was never a real contender for the championship...
(By the way, my other favorite team is Inter, but I must confess
that I lost much of my passion for Inter when they sacked coach
Simoni some years ago, without any real reason and especially
without style, I would say.)
... until this year! Now, I can finally brag and pretend that I
do indeed understand something of football :-)
The season started quite well for me: 19th after week 1, 8th in
week 2, and I remained in the second half of the top 10 for a
while. But then I dropped to 21st in week 12, and then even worse:
25th, 27th, 35th, and my bottom position 61st in week 16. That's
when my slow but steady "resurrection" began, and when I won week
23 I finally managed to jump back into the top 10. A third place
in week 29, allowed me to reach the 3rd position, and after a few
consistently high scores, finally the 1st position in week 32. I
lost the top but gained it back again with quite an advantage over
the second place, and the last few weeks saw my advantage shrink
and shrink while experienced and excellent "predictors" (Danilo
Monaco, Joseph Tiziano, Elena Gazia, the Biondinis, Svet Dimov,
to name a few, with apologies to those I did not mention) got
closer and closer... but not enough!
After all these numbers, which I hope were not too tedious, the
legitimate question to ask is: how did you manage, Luca? Well, I
don't really know: a combination of logic and sheer luck, I would
say! I tried to predict the scores that seemed most reasonable,
keeping in mind that with the new rules, 0-0 is not really a
recurrent score anymore. Rather opt for a 1-1. And 2-1 is more
likely than 1-0, at least I think (I did not really tally the real
scores, so I might be wrong :-) And once in a while, throw in a
prediction that seems quite unlikely. This seems, and in fact is,
quite "safe" betting and it is thus unsurprising that I won with
the second lowest total score ever. It was a strange season and I
look forward to the next one, which might be even more exciting...
unless (or until? :-) some new scandal creeps up...
In any case, I would like to conclude by thanking the man without
whom all of this would not have been possible. Roberto, as I
wrote to you in private many times, thanks a lot for all your
great work! It is really lots of fun to participate to CP and I
think that you have been providing an excellent service to us all
fanatics. So, please, keep up the good work!
