I would like to start by thanking our organizer, Roberto Ricca, for
organizing this competition for our enjoyment, year after year. The amount
of detail on the website is fantastic and very well managed. As one of the
previous winners mentioned, I could look at all the data for hours.
Winning the Concorso 2010 was a very big surprise for me. As you will see
from previous year's final standings, I haven't done very well in the past.
This season I just seemed to have a good feel for the games and Serie A in
general. I was a long way behind half way through the competition but as I
had missed a few weeks, I knew I had a chance to catch up. With two weeks
left, I thought my chance was gone as the leader, Fabrizio Feira, was 46
points ahead. But I managed to jointly win Week 37 and then some how scored
9 correct games in Week 38 and win the competition. I would like to
congratulate Fabrizio for a great season and as he won the competition last
year (and in 2005), I feel lucky to have beaten a very good competitor.
A little background about me - I was born in Toronto, Canada but moved to
England when I was a kid. I grew up in a seaside town in the south-west of
England, called Torquay. Most of you have probably not heard of Torquay
United, who play in League Two in England, but they were, and still are, my
team, though I don't live there any more (if any of you are ever on holiday
in England, I hope you'll go watch a Torquay game!). I moved back to Toronto
about 20 years ago and last month moved again, this time to the tiny island
of Bermuda. I'm probably the only person in the competition who lives on the
island. I'm surprised to find that there is quite a good selection of Serie
A live on TV here, so I can still watch 2-3 games each weekend.
Lastly, I'd like to say hello to my friends, Edward Perovic, Walter Stemberg
and Tony Bellissimo, who introduced me to Roberto's competition, back in
2006. I won guys!
Good luck to everyone next year.
Eric
